OUR HISTORY

4th Generation of «Vignerons»

Our history began in 1901, when the great-grandfather, François, lost his parents at the age of 10 and was raised by his uncle winemaker.

François started working with his uncle before taking over the estate in 1911, which was later on passed to his son, Emile Bertrand, who continued to expand the vineyards up to 5 ha, in parallel and with the support of his son Patrick, they both start an itinerant distillery, traveling every winter from 1950 to 2008.

Patrick Bertrand joined the family business in 1976 in the following of his training at Viti de Beaune, with the resort of new winemaking techniques and new tools the domaine has seen an extraordinary growth, the vineyard has now 10.5 ha.

In 2020 Raphaël Bertrand and Catarina Pinto are the fourth «Vignerons» generation to take over the domaine, this activity is more than a profession, it’s a tradition in which the know-how has passed throughout the generations.

After his training and having acquired experience in France and abroad, Raphaël Bertrand takes over the family estate in October 2020. In partnership with his partner and future Winemaker Catarina, they create the new image of the estate and they innovate their processes.

At Domaine Raphaël Bertrand, the grapes are harvested entirely by hand, a mission delegated to teams of women and men who carry out their work in a rigorous and meticulous manner, perfectly mastering the harvesting practices established in the domain, and ensuring a good atmosphere during harvest periods.

Lovers of this profession, they make balanced and elegant wines through winemaking that respects the work done in the vineyards throughout the year.

THE VINEYARD:

Loving the Nature !

The soil preparation is done in perfect respect of nature and Men - an intense and balanced work in parallel with a reasoned cultivation allows a healthy vineyard growth to obtain high quality grapes.

The estate has 10.5 ha, and it is at a very close distance from the winery in the villages of Barizey, Saint Jean-de-Vaux, Mercurey and Saint-Martin-Sous-Montaigu, which allows the grapes to arrive with freshness at the winery during all harvest.
